Thanksgiving Point Farm Country
The petting zoo at Thanksgiving Point is located in Lehi Utah. It is easily accessible to parents of preschoolers living in Utah and Salt Lake counties. The petting zoo is a real working farm that gives preschoolers a close up look at the animals that are so much a part of our lives. Annual themed activities include the Lamb and Wool Festival, Baby Animal Birthday Celebration, Pig-n-Pork Day, Dairy Day, Utah County Fair, and the Barnyard Boo.
Advantages of Thanksgiving Point Farm Country
The Thanksgiving Point Petting Zoo is a wonderful Salt Lake City preschool destination. You have to go through the barn to get to the petting zoo. The barn contains some wonderful exhibits such as an interactive display sponsored by Meadow Gold that demonstrates how milk gets from the cow to your fridge. Preschoolers are able to watch and participate in milking one of the cows that lives at the farm. A large scale is available for groups of preschoolers to stand on and see what kind of animal weighs the same as they do. Preschoolers can see baby chickens up close and eggs that are ready to hatch. For very ambitions parents of preschoolers, baby chickens or ducks can be purchased so that you can continue the farm experience at home. It is important to keep in mind that the baby chickens and ducks will grow bigger and will need to be provided with a good home when they are grown as well. A reading area with puzzles, books, and toys is available for preschoolers to have a few quiet moments if they would like.
The petting zoo is completely fenced and is small enough that it is easy to keep track of active preschoolers. An admission ticket includes either a pony ride or a ride on a horse drawn wagon. Preschoolers will love learning more about the animals that live on the farm and petting the horses, cows, and donkeys that are willing to get close enough to say hi. Thanksgiving Point has signs outside of the pens of animals that may be prone to bite small fingers. Parents need to help their preschoolers understand what the signs mean but it is very helpful to have a warning so that preschoolers can have a good experience at the farm.
There is a small jail and dance hall that is just the right size for preschoolers and makes a great photo opportunity. For a quarter, preschoolers can purchase some corn to feed the animals. This may be frightening for some preschoolers but others love the feel of the animals eating out of their hands. For preschoolers who are hesitant to try this, there is a cement platform just inside the animal pens that they can leave for the animals to eat.
A hand washing stations is available in the barn so preschoolers can get cleaned up after touching and feeding the animals. Preschoolers will love the fun sink that they turn on with their feet. Bathrooms are easily available inside the barn.
Disadvantages of Thanksgiving Point Farm Country
There is a store located inside the barn and it must be walked through entering and exiting the petting zoo. This is a temper tantrum waiting to happen for excited preschoolers who are worn out from a wonderful day at the petting zoo. It may help to prepare your preschooler ahead of time and letting them know that you are going to the petting zoo to see the animals and are not purchasing toys or other items unless Mom or Dad decides it is okay.
Things You Don't Want to Miss at Thanksgiving Point Farm Country
Don't forget to take advantage of the free pony ride or horse drawn wagon ride that is included in your admission price.
If you would like to pack a lunch, there is a wonderful place just outside the barn to have a picnic. Picnic tables and shade trees make it a wonderful place to enjoy a peaceful lunch.
