Preschool Tours - Provo Fire and Rescue

Fire safety is such an important lesson for preschoolers to learn. Fortunately, most preschoolers are interested in learning more about the people that protect our community and the things that they need to do to stay safe. The Provo Fire and Rescue hosts tours for preschool playgroups and preschools in an effort to support fire safety education and help preschoolers understand that fire fighters are there to help them in an emergency.

Why Teach Preschoolers About Fire Safety?

Every year many preschoolers are hurt or killed in fire related accidents. It is important for preschoolers to understand what they can do to keep themselves and their home safe from fire.  In an emergency, many preschoolers hide from firefighters in their gear because they are frightened by their heavy suits and the sound of their breathing equipment. Preschoolers who have visited a fire station and had an opportunity to see fire fighters dressed up in their gear will be able to understand that fire fighters are there to help them.

Fire Station Tours

Provo Fire and Rescue supports community education by providing tours of the fire station for groups of all ages. Tours are offered on Monday and Fridays between 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. On occasion, the fire station may be able to accommodate tours at different times depending on the needs of the group. Tours must be scheduled at least one week in advanced and can be requested by calling 852-6332.

During a fire station tour, preschool playgroups or preschools will be taken through the fire station and told what roll each part of the fire station plays. Preschoolers will see where the fire fighters sleep, eat, and prepare for an emergency. Preschoolers will be able to explore the fire trucks up close and try on the gear that fire fighters wear when they are fighting a real fire.

Sometimes the fire fighters may be called away on an emergency during a tour of the fire station. If that happens, the preschoolers will get a chance to see the fire trucks leave but the tour will need to be rescheduled for another time. Tours will last approximately 30 minutes.
